The Challenge

When testripz.com came to WhatArmy in March 2016 to sign up for our Enterprise Support Plan, our initial review showed concerning qualitative, quantitative, technological and security issues.

The site looked outdated and did not convey a professional image; it was not mobile responsive, lacked an SSL certificate and was being outranked by its competition in search results.

It was built on a version of php that is no longer being supported and used a third-party integration that we found to have security flaws.

The site did not meet our basic requirements for onboarding.

The Solution

In order to bring the site up "best practices" standards, we recommended a complete site rebuild.

The teststripz client was receptive to the idea. We met with him to discuss his business goals and began putting together a plan for a secure, responsive and highly-professional-looking site that would be built on the latest version of php and include many upgraded features.

Teststripz.com is a website where consumers sell their extra, unused diabetes supplies via a "reverse shopping cart". Consumers select the products they want to sell, add them to their cart and submit the order. They receive a free shipping label to mail the products to teststripz.com, and once they are received, consumers are issued payment for their merchandise.

The functional requirements for the rebuild included building a custom reverse shopping cart functionality, integrating with a third-party shipping label API, creating a custom dashboard and reports, and implementing a product carousel. It was a full-scale project with discovery, design, development and finishing phases. The timeline was approximately two months and the new site went live in September 2016 on time and on budget.

Discovery Phase

We met weekly with the client to document design features and functional requirements for his new website. We needed to determine his target audience in order to create a design that would both resonate with them while conveying the professional image often found to be lacking on the website of its competitors.

Design Phase

To cater to a target audience of older adults, some of whom may be visually impaired, we went with larger font sizes and clear, easy-to-follow instructions for selling items on the site. We added personal touches for warmth, including a video of the identical twin brothers who founded the business together. We highlighted the company's A+ rating and positive client testimonials.

Development Phase

We developed a new custom dashboard which would make processing orders and business reporting easier for the client. We integrated with a shipping label API, and set up a user flow that enabled clients to have the option of printing their own label or having one emailed to them. We developed a dashboard which allowed orders to be securely viewed by an outside call center team, without requiring them to log into the admin areas of the site.

Finishing Phase

We completed cosmetic tweaks and tested the site across all standard browsers and devices. We had the call center crew test their new dashboard and made some customizations based on how they were currently doing their jobs. After testing and quality assurance checks, we were ready to schedule the go live and the new site was launched.
