The Challenge

The Tanzanian Children's Fund came to us because they were concerned that an influx of website traffic during an upcoming feature on 60 Minutes might take down the site. They needed to prepare the site ahead of time for the extra traffic, to make sure the site is as secure as possible and to create a promotion on their homepage for the 60 Minutes segment that links to a custom landing page.

With a national media spotlight approaching, the organization needed assurance that their website would remain stable, secure, and performant under increased traffic while also providing a seamless experience for visitors interested in learning more about their work and making donations.

The Solution

WhatArmy conducted a comprehensive website audit, set up the Tanzanian Children's Fund on our WordPress Support Plan, secured the site, optimized performance, and created promotional materials, all before the 60 Minutes feature aired.

Comprehensive Website Audit

Conducted initial site audit to identify vulnerabilities, drafted roadmap review, and presented findings to ensure the site was ready for increased traffic and security requirements.

Website Security Hardening

Set up SSL encryption, updated 12 plugins and 1 theme, removed unused themes and plugins, installed spam prevention, and implemented secure data-driven forms to protect against malware and attacks.

Traffic Preparation & Monitoring

Set up dedicated hosting plan to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow, monitored the site as the 60 Minutes show aired, and remained on call to troubleshoot any issues in real-time.

Promotional Landing Page

Designed, developed and implemented a custom landing page for the 60 Minutes segment with third-party donation integration, plus a homepage call-to-action linking to the landing page.

Performance Optimization

Diagnosed site size for page speed, optimized images, compressed files, altered JavaScript code, and improved load time to pass Google's site speed test.
